Kreisel Electric develops high performance drive for serial production of SAY29E Runabout Carbon

Boatbuilders Portier AG presented the SAY29E Runabout Carbon, the world’s fastest mass-produced e-boat, at Lakemotions, this year’s open days for shipyards around Lake Zurich, which took place on June 2/3, 2018. The traditional shipyard, which has been in business for over 200 years, is thus taking a groundbreaking step into the future and is committed to electrical technology in boatbuilding.

With a top speed of 50 knots (93 km/h), the SAY29E Runabout Carbon is currently unrivalled and the fastest e-boat in the world planned for series production. The boat’s hull is made of pure carbon composite and weighs only 400 kg. In combination with the drive system developed by Kreisel Electric, the low weight ensures a smooth and impressive acceleration. The Kreisel drive achieves a peak output of 500 hp. This is made possible by the unique liquid-cooled Kreisel battery technology, a massive 100 kWh in this application. Every detail of the SAY29E Runabout Carbon is optimized for speed and agility. The design, the characteristic wavecutter bow and sidewings ensure maximum stability and allow the fastest cornering speeds. The handling of the boat is fascinatingly simple – even in waves.

“We are very proud to now also be able to present the first series production application of our unique battery solution for the marine sector, and in such a high performance segment”, Markus Kreisel, CEO of Kreisel Electric, is pleased to report.

“Karl Wagner, CEO SAY GmbH, adds: “In the form of Kreisel Electric from Rainbach in Austria and Swiss boatbuilders Portier on Lake Zurich, we have found two top partners for our top product, the SAY29E Runabout Carbon, in the field of e-technology. Kreisel Electric has developed this unique power drive for us and Boatbuilders Portier is absolutely the right choice of boatyard for marketing. The SAY29E Runabout Carbon is made of 100% carbon. This has enabled us to achieve an extremely favorable weight to power ratio, making the boat the fastest e-boat in the world today.”
